悼念Michael Dacre

A British aviation pioneer died in a horrific ball of flame yesterday when the aircraft he had invented plunged to earth on its first test flight.
Mr Michael Dacre, 53, managing director of the British-based company Avcen Ltd, took to the air 150 miles north of the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, in his eight-seater ‘flying taxi’ which he hoped would become commercially available next year.
The plane was being developed to take off and land in short distances, which it hoped would allow runways to be built closer to city centres
Witnesses gave dramatic accounts of the aircraft plummetting to earth and the ensuing explosion which claimed Mr Dacre’s life.
Retired soldier Halim Hamid, 50, who lives near the air strip at Taiping was gathering shrimps at a disused pond just 50 yards from where the plane came down.
‘I had seen it earlier going down the runway three times, but it couldn’t take off,’ he said.
‘Then on the fourth run it took off into the air but at about 200 metres (yards) high, it shot vertically to the sky before veering to its left and then falling to the ground.’
